Early production 1950s Brimars are always a safe bet for me, regardless of tube type. This tube is outstanding, and should be considered if you are looking for a very linear tube, with clean detailed highs, and excellent bass. When I say the tube is linear, I meant that the frequency extension is all there, but no area is overemphasized. Those looking for more drama and bass slam might consider the Mullard ECC35. Those wanting more aggressive highs might consider Tung Sol black glass or Sylvania V-229s. This Brimar CV1985 is for those who seek a super smooth sound, with no emphasis in any one area. You will NOT be unhappy with these tubes. Also, they are hard to find. I rarely see NOS 50s Brimars.
